June 1st – 4th, 2017: Acadia Birding Festival
Acadia’s birding community invites you and your family to celebrate the ecological wonders of the birds of the Gulf of Maine at the Acadia Birding Festival. Explore Mount Desert Island and its birds through numerous events and venues. Greet our warblers on early morning birding walks, visit with puffins and pelagic birds at sea, and observe Peregrine Falcons at an active breeding site in Acadia National Park. June 4th, 2017: MDI YMCA Acadia Half Marathon & 10K
The MDI YMCA is the cornerstone of youth development and recreational activities on the island, and this race is the MDI YMCA’s 2nd largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from the Half Marathon help fund our scholarship program.
This course features breathtaking views of Acadia National Park and Maine’s rocky coastline. It is a spectacular 13.1-mile course traveling on the scenic Acadia National Park Loop Road.

Enjoy the best that Bar Harbor has to eat and drink at its annual food festival, the Taste of Bar Harbor. This festival celebrates the rich culinary traditions of our region, and explores the exciting industries that are shaping the new flavors of Bar Harbor.
With cooking classes, brewery tours, and tastings for all palates happening throughout the weekend, the festival also features Dessert Night Competition, a Friday night Pub Tour, and the opportunity to sit at a Chef’s Table.
June 17th – 18th, 2017: Art in the Park
The beauty of Bar Harbor was first captured on canvas in the mid-1800s by notable American painters. Soon, other artists followed and today Bar Harbor and Down East Maine support a lively arts community.
Come to the 67th Annual Art in the Park show, the longest running art show in Bar Harbor, where more than 25 painters and photographers will display and sell their original work.
July 2nd – 30th, 2017: Bar Harbor Music Festival
Acclaimed by Phi Beta Baton as “…one of the nation’s proving grounds for gifted young artists,” the Bar Harbor Music Festival has gained national recognition for its important work. It remains one of the few music festivals in the United States whose guiding mission is to provide essential performance opportunities for outstanding up-and-coming talent. During the past 50 years, the Festival has advanced the careers of over 1,800 aspiring instrumentalists, singers, and composers, presenting a glorious summer of music ranging from opera to jazz.

July 4th, 2017: Bar Harbor’s Independence Day celebration
4th of July festivities including a pancake breakfast, parade, lobster races, music from the town band, seafood festival and, of course, fireworks over Frenchman Bay.

The course is a ½ marathon, 13.1 miles. It is a challenging loop course, with the start and finish at the Bar Harbor athletic field across from the MDI YMCA. Nine miles of the course are on Acadia National Park’s carriage roads, offering a car free, excellent running surface. This is the only half marathon that runs through a national park.

September 21st – 24th, 2017: Acadia Night Sky Festival
Join us for one of the premier night sky events on the eastern seaboard. The 8th Annual Acadia Night Sky Festival is set for September 21st-24th, 2017, and is already packed with a full schedule of events. With workshops, internationally recognized speakers and hands-on experiences, there truly is something for everyone from families to the serious amateur astronomer.

October 15th, 2017: Mount Desert Island Marathon
Presenting the award-winning Mount Desert Island Marathon, voted ‘most scenic’ and runner-up ‘best overall’ marathon by Runner’s World! Race day is held annually on the Sunday following Columbus Day. Hosted by Crow Athletics.
